Reference should be made to the University's General Regulations found in Section IV and Section V (Higher Degree Regulations) of the University Calendar.

Except where the School has been granted an opt-out by the University (see below) the following academic regulations apply in addition to the General Regulations.

1. Admissions

Admissions requirements will be as stated in General Regulations, the programme specification and the University Prospectus.

2. Structure of Programme(s)

The structure of the programme is set out in the programme specification. The Individual Project in Part III and the Group Design Project in Part IV are the only core elements of the programme.

3. Progression

Progression regulations follow the University regulations in the University Calendar Section IV, and in addition, a candidate on an MEng programme is required to achieve an average mark of 55% in Part II and 52% in Part III. Transfer onto the MEng at the end of Part III is permitted for students achieving an overall Part III average of 52% plus a BEng final average mark of 52%.

4. Assessment

Details of the assessment for individual modules are given in module specifications held on the SES website.

5. Award of Qualification(s)

The School’s regulations for the award of MEng, BEng, DipHE and CertHE qualifications are as published in the University Calendar Section IV.

6. Placements/Study Abroad/Exchange/Fieldwork

Details are given in the programme specification. Candidates wishing to follow themes involving study abroad may be required to take additional foreign language modules. Their performance on the assessments of these modules will not affect their progression on the engineering programme, but may affect whether they can remain on the theme involving study abroad.

7. Other

Any other specific requirements for this programme are included in programme regulations.

These regulations may be revised during the student's period of registration in accordance with the procedures approved by Senate.

Candidates are required to satisfy the academic and attendance requirements of the programme as laid out in the Programme Specification and the Student Handbook for the programme. Those failing to do so may have their course terminated.
