Regulations for the Part-Time Route to Bachelor of Science
- Students entering a part-time degree must satisfy the general admission requirements of the School as set out in Regulation 2 for the degree of Bachelor of Science in the Social Sciences.
- The degree of Bachelor of Science is awarded by the Senate on the recommendation of the Board of the School of Social Sciences. It may be awarded with honours or as a pass degree.
- Students may, with the approval of the Board of the School, be admitted to part-time study for the BSc either by direct entry or by transfer from full-time registration. A student who has initially registered for part-time study may, with the permission of the School Board, be eligible to register subsequently for full-time study as an honours student if this is permitted within the relevant programme regulations. Permission to transfer to full-time study will be granted by the School Board only if the appropriate number of units have already been completed satisfactorily at the point of transfer.
- The course for a BSc by part-time study shall extend over not less than 4, and not more than 8, academic years.
- Part-time students will be subject to the same individual programme requirements as is specified by the programme regulations for full-time students. Apart from prescribed units, choice of options shall be made in consultation with the student's personal tutor and shall be subject in all cases to the approval of the School Board.
- Students will be expected to register for a minimum of 3, and a maximum of 6, units per academic year. Credit points are equally distributed at 15 points per unit; to qualify for the award of an honours degree, part-time candidates must have registered for units with a total credit points value of at least 360.
- The required number of Level C units for any degree programme must be completed within 3 years. Students will be required to satisfactorily complete each level of study before progression to succeeding levels.
- In the event of programme changes being agreed during the period of registration, part-time students may be required to take a unit or units other than those originally available.
