1. The Certificate will be awarded by Senate on the recommendation of the Faculty Board to candidates who have completed satisfactorily a programme of part-time study and who have satisfied the examination requirements and who have met the minimum of 80% attendance requirements for the award.
   
   
2. The period of study will normally extend over not less than two years and not more than five.
   
   
3. There are no formal academic entrance requirements, but applicants must follow the formal admissions procedure, which assesses readiness to study at this level.
   
   
4. The Certificate is based on a unit structure. Candidates must normally complete units amounting to 120 credit points at a passing grade or above in each programme unit to be eligible for the award, of which no more than 30 credit points may be drawn from 5 or 10 credit units.
   
   
5. Up to 50% of the credits required to be awarded the Certificate may be attained through transfer of credits or the accreditation of prior learning as approved by the Board of the Faculty.
   
   
6. Programmes relating to specialist fields of study may be offered from time to time. Details of such programmes will be specified in the appropriate programme description.
   
   
7. Examination will be by assessment of written work, skills practice and such other methods of examination as are approved by the Board of the Faculty as appropriate to the programme.
   
   
8. Subject to the approval of the Board of the Faculty, candidates who have been unsuccessful in the examination of any unit may normally submit themselves to be re-examined in that unit on one occasion only and, if the work meets the required standard, will only gain the minimum University of Southampton pass mark.
   
   
9. All programme units taken by students in the Faculty are credit-rated in accordance with the principles contained in the CATS Guide and Regulations.
   
   
10. In the event of a student handing in work after the published submission date (or agreed extension), if the work meets the required standard, it will only gain the minimum University of Southampton pass mark.
    
    

Certificate of Higher Education: Counselling Skills & Theory

You must take the core units, and are usually expected to study the Programme Options. If you are unable to complete all the Programme Options, you may replace up to two of the programme options with CPD Option units.
